Welcome to Cohasset High School, a small public school nestled along the coastline along the South Shore of Massachusetts. We are committed to fostering an environment which allows students to thrive, providing students with opportunities to discover who they are beyond just exploring avenues for what they might do.
Our educational values are rooted in the Vision of the Graduate, which strives to instill students to develop inspiring character, acting with integrity, demonstrating respect for themselves and others, and identifying ethical solutions to problems that consider the personal, interpersonal, communal, and institutional impact of such solutions.
We wish for students to demonstrate meaningful and purposeful growth, recognizing that there is no one path to success and continuously engaging in a process of continuous self-reflection as students journey towards fulfillment. And we design learning so that students use their academic and social skills in pursuit of serving the greater good, promoting empathy and advancing global citizenship by using our skills to make our planet more peaceful, sustainable, and just. Beyond traditional academic paths, Cohasset High School engages with community resources to create project-based learning opportunities that are grounded in scholarship but that address real-world challenges and offer real-world solutions. Our students are empowered to become agents of change.
The commitment to personalizing education promotes student voice and increases student engagement, which is reflected in student achievement. Cohasset High School has been recognized as a School of Recognition by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, AP Platinum Honor Roll by the College Board, and one of America’s Best High Schools by US News and World Report.
Dear Families,
It is with great enthusiasm that I write this letter to introduce myself to you as the Superintendent of the Cohasset Public Schools. As a lifelong educator, Cohasset resident and mother of a rising CHS junior and class of 2024 graduate, leading this district is deeply meaningful for me. It’s an honor to serve in this position and to support the Cohasset students, families and staff as we continue our mission to deliver an outstanding education for our children.
While there are many things about the Cohasset Public Schools to be celebrated, two things in particular drew me to apply for the Superintendent position: first, that we, as a district, put our students first; and second, that our vision is to “empower students to improve communities”. Both of these core beliefs are at the center of my personal philosophy for public education. Additionally, I believe, as a school leader, in building strong relationships, in clear and consistent communication, and in leading with integrity. I hope that, as we get to know each other, we can build upon these values and beliefs to continue to move the Cohasset schools forward so your children can achieve academic and personal success. One of the tenets of the Cohasset Public School’s Vision of a Graduate is “purposeful growth”. This guiding principle applies not only for our students but also for us as a district.
This summer and into the fall, my goals are to learn more about you, your children and the district so we can collaboratively build a new strategic plan that will move us into the future. While we will have many formal opportunities to meet, and for you to provide input once school begins, I’d like to invite any families or students who want to connect over the summer to do so by either scheduling a meeting with me (simply email me at sshannon@cohassetk12.org to request a meeting) or by participating in one of the forums listed below:
-
Thursday, July 25 @ 8:30 - 9:30 AM in the CMS/CHS Learning Commons
-
Tuesday, August 6 @ 5:00 - 6:00 PM in the CMS/CHS Learning Commons
Additionally, I will be attending the Cohasset Farmers’ Market on August 8 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM and on August 22 from 3:00 - 6:00 PM. We will also be hosting the traditional district-wide Welcome Back Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, August 14 on the Middle School field from 5:30 - 6:30 PM. I hope to see you at one or all of these events.
Finally, September 3, our first day of school will be here before we know it and there is no better time of year to live in Cohasset. I wish you and your children a wonderful summer and hope that if you see me around town you will say hello.
Warmly,
Sarah R. Shannon
